About Us

Our Mission

The promotion of year-round community based sport fishing activities, for youth and their families. The society organizes fish release events and fishing derbies with community partners and takes the lead in organizing activities for youth, seniors and their families related to angling in B.C. The society delivers programs that contribute to the quality of life through respect for the angling environment on a year-round basis.

Our Story

Vancouver Island Fishing for Fun Society was founded in 2015 by Mike Lawrence. He wanted to share his passion for fishing and the outdoors with everyone. He began by holding bottle drives to give away fishing rods to those that need them, especially the less fortunate.

In 2016 we began holding fishing trips and events which are held on a monthly basis at fishing areas near Nanaimo. We also hold educational sessions on topics related to fishing including; rod building, fly tying and other topics related to fishing. You can check out our Current Events Page by clicking here.

We also partner with Dave Pederson who runs Fishing for Fun in Ladysmith. You can check out their Facebook Page by clicking here.
